Query SEC datasets and supplemental disclosure records.
SEC datasets and supplemental research
Build research around financial notes and reported segments, insider transactions, institutional 13F holdings, N-PORT fund portfolios and Form D offerings. Search comment letters, Form 144 proposed sales, subsidiary exhibits and adviser history through the supplemental endpoints. Start in SEC datasets or SEC supplemental research, then use the same records in your application.
These routes require an account session or API key with search:read, active account access and available request capacity. All plans include access within those limits. Dataset catalogs show imported coverage; a live endpoint does not mean every historical source has been imported.
| Research task | Operation | What to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Inspect datasets and imported coverage | GET /sec-datasets/catalog | Dataset identifiers and available-source counts. |
| Find company records | GET /sec-datasets/records | Required dataset and cik; optional accession, table and cursor. Up to 50 records per page; follow data.pagination.nextCursor with unchanged filters. |
| Check company/form/year coverage | GET /sec-datasets/history-coverage | Supply cik. Retained catalog coverage distinguishes indexed, pending and unresolved records; it is not a census of every SEC filing. |
| Explore one filing | POST /sec-datasets/research/filing | Supply dataset, cik, accession and sourceSha256 from the selected record. |
| Compare holdings or linked offerings | POST /sec-datasets/research/compare | Send left and right source selections plus mode: changes or, for holdings, overlap. |
| Compare selected financial disclosures | POST /sec-datasets/research/disclosures | Each source selection also supplies its recordKey. Units, periods, dimensions and issuer identity must be compatible. |
| Discover supplemental sources | GET /sec-datasets/supplements/catalog | Available families and import status. |
| Search supplemental evidence and profiles | GET /sec-datasets/supplements/records | Choose family: comment_letters, form_144, subsidiary_exhibits or adviser_history. Supply a cik or q of at least three characters; up to 25 source rows/passages per page. |

The second request is a retained Form D source example, not a promise of full issuer history. Preserve source URLs, accession where supplied, evidence text, source version, units and verification state. Adviser snapshots may lack an EDGAR accession or CIK; retain their disclosed identifiers and snapshot dates.
Fund positions are delayed reported holdings. A missing position is not zero or proof of a trade; ambiguous identities and incomplete selected sources block holdings comparisons. Form D changes require an explicit amendment link and do not establish a company valuation. Form 144 describes proposed sales, and disclosed subsidiaries do not establish a complete ownership tree. Each observation keeps the SEC source, reported values and record-level validation details together.
The workspace exports selected results with evidence as JSON. Large filings may exceed interactive comparison limits; use source-record pagination and the original SEC source. See OpenAPI for request contracts. Use REST for these endpoints; published SDKs and MCP expose their own documented operations.
