How FilingSift creates source-cited filing changes

FilingSift fetches a filing from SEC.gov, extracts bounded facts and signals, resolves units and periods when deterministic evidence supports them, compares standardized concepts across eligible filings, and returns exact evidence or an explicit refusal. It does not treat missing data as zero.

Pipeline

  1. Identify the issuer and comparable form using accession-level metadata.
  2. Fetch only required filing documents under SEC fair-access limits.
  3. Parse narrative blocks and tables while retaining source locators.
  4. Normalize concepts only where mapping rules are defensible.
  5. Resolve sign, currency, scale, and period from source context.
  6. Compare equivalent concepts and suppress date-only or formatting noise.
  7. Return evidence hashes, accessions, source URLs, verification, uncertainty, and refusals.
  8. Discard raw filing content after processing.

Verification states

Candidate requires human review. Machine-checked passed deterministic checks but is not a human conclusion. Verified is reserved for the qualified benchmark review process and is not assigned automatically. Illustrative means fictional presentation data.

Refusal over guessing

If a period, currency, unit, sign, concept mapping, or source locator cannot be established, the value is refused or marked uncertain. The system does not optimize for maximum recall at the cost of false precision. Severity remains null until a defensible and reviewed methodology exists.

Current public boundary

Current public SEO coverage is limited to Apple Inc., two comparable 10-Q filings, and four machine-checked debt or liquidity changes. No result is human-verified. Broader issuer coverage and accuracy claims remain gated by qualified review.
