Economic research and reusable dashboards

Combine selected BLS inflation, industry employment and hourly-earnings measures, BEA GDP, consumer spending, income, saving, private investment and selected industry measures, Treasury yields, New York Fed rates, SLOOS lending conditions, OFR stress and BIS series. Open the chart builder. The catalog reports observed history by series; coverage is not universal.

GET /api/v1/reference/economics/catalog is public. POST /api/v1/reference/economics/query requires intelligence:read, entitled billing and reference-history access. BIS-only queries use POST /api/v1/reference/economics/public-query, free without login or paid quota.

  --data '{"startDate":"2024-01-01","endDate":"2025-12-31","frequency":"quarterly","aggregation":"mean","lines":[{"id":"s1","series":"bls:CUSR0000SA0","transform":"yoy"},{"id":"s2","series":"bea:A191RL","transform":"level"}],"calculations":[]}'

Choose up to eight lines and ten years. Transformations include level, change, percent change, year-over-year change, index to 100, and three/twelve-period moving averages. Up to four named differences or ratios reference line IDs. Differences require compatible units. Calculations use only the requested history; allow enough in-range observations for lagged comparisons.

Monthly, quarterly and annual aggregation use the last returned observation or mean. Missing observations and partial periods remain unavailable. Quarterly data is not copied into months; annual industry compensation requires annual comparisons. Annualized BEA levels are never summed; chained-dollar components are not additive. Raw source observations, units, adjustment basis, retrieval times, request bodies and hashes accompany derived results. These are latest retrieved revisions, not historical publication vintages. Responses exceeding 1.75 MB require fewer series or a shorter range; no silent truncation.

BLS industry jobs, hourly earnings and inflation

32 selected BLS series include the original seven plus 12 industry payroll series, seven production/nonsupervisory hourly-earnings series and six consumer-price breakdowns. Added histories prioritize 1990 onward and retain earlier available values; use the catalog for each series’ observed dates. CES employment counts payroll jobs, not unique people; its unit is thousands_payroll_jobs, including the original total-nonfarm series. Earnings are nominal USD per hour for the named employee population. They are not total compensation.

This example compares manufacturing payroll jobs and production/nonsupervisory hourly earnings on separate scales; account history must cover the requested dates. Inflation examples: bls:CUUR0000SAF1 food, bls:CUUR0000SAF11 food at home, bls:CUUR0000SA0E energy, bls:CUUR0000SAH1 shelter, bls:CUUR0000SAM medical care and bls:CUUR0000SAT transportation. These six indexes are not seasonally adjusted and use 1982–84=100; year-over-year comparisons need a year of in-range history. Early observations may be less frequent than monthly. Reported missing values stay null, with original BLS footnotes. Added-series receipts include the API response and checked official series definitions. Latest retrieved revisions are not historical publication vintages.

BEA income, spending and investment histories

113 selected BEA series include the original three GDP measures. Quarterly income and nominal private investment reach 1947; monthly income, saving and nominal spending reach 1959 where reported. Detailed real spending and investment start later. Selected annual industry compensation starts in 1998; quarterly industry profits in 2001. Consult the catalog for each series’ observed dates. Monthly and quarterly IDs are distinct. Saving rates use percent of disposable income, not dollars.

This example requires reference-history access covering 1959. Business-investment examples: bea:B009RC_Q structures, bea:Y033RC_Q equipment, bea:Y001RC_Q intellectual property. Annual manufacturing compensation: bea:N4013C_A. Observations include table, line, cell, source code, units and publication metadata; sourceData includes table footnotes. These are selected national-account measures, not company financials or complete industry GDP coverage.

Browser sessions can list, create and delete /api/v1/account/economics/dashboards. Saving requires workspace:write; each dashboard holds up to six named chart definitions, with personal or team visibility. The existing 20-dashboard organization cap applies. Reloading recomputes from retained sources under current access. CSV exports the displayed chart values; JSON includes observations and receipts. See the typed OpenAPI schemas.
